Identifying and responding to reportable allegations (NSW focus)

This best-practice training will use relatable scenarios and practice-focussed discussions and presentations to help participants with:

  • Practical advice about their obligations under the NSW Reportable Conduct Scheme
  • An overview of what is expected when responding to reportable allegations
  • Simple tools to help identify whether information needs to be reported to the Office of the Children's Guardian
  • A practical understanding and application of the reportable allegations and categories, definitions and thresholds
  • Applying a best practice framework to initial responses to reportable allegations
  • Working collaboratively with, police, DCJ and other prescribed bodies
  • Risk assessment and mitigation
  • Affording and demonstrating procedural fairness to employees when responding to reportable allegations

Training for: The training is suitable for frontline workers in child-related roles, investigators new to the Reportable Conduct Scheme, new senior managers/decision-makers or any employee who is responsible for responding to reportable allegations and would benefit from practical and operationalised guidance to fulfil their obligations within their Schedule 1 entity, public authority or religious body.

Assumed knowledge: Previous knowledge of the Scheme, while beneficial, is not necessary for participation. It is however expected that participants will have an understanding of child protection dynamics and risk.

Materials provided: All participants will receive a hard copy of the presentation materials on the day of the training workshop, and a certificate of attendance following the workshop.

Participant representation: This training is not sector specific and welcomes participants from any child-related sector captured by the NSW Reportable Conduct Scheme. This breadth of participation enhances the experience in the room and sectors are able to benefit from the learnings and experience of others, as well as providing the opportunity to consider the impact of the adequacy of how their part of the sector is currently engaging in information exchange with other child-related sectors/employers in the course of responding to reportable allegation.

Trainer experience: As per her brief bio, Michelle White worked from January 2016 - January 2024 with the NSW Reportable Conduct Scheme. During that time she held roles such as Manager Investigations, Principal Investigator and Manager Projects. In addition to her usual portfolio management of sectors, oversight of investigations and management of staff, Michelle held the training brief for the Scheme for many years facilitating training and capacity building webinars/forums across the breadth of the Scheme. Michelle authored the Scheme's first free 7-module eLearning course Responding to Reportable Allegations and authored and produced the Scheme's 4 videos for entities, employees and families. Prior to her engagement with the NSW Reportable Conduct Scheme, Michelle was the Director and Principal Officer of a Statutory OOHC agency. Michelle commenced her consultancy practice in early 2024 and has supported many organisations to strengthen their practice, has conducted numerous investigations, reviews and audits, as well as delivering training and developing tailored policy, procedure and practice tools for organisations.

Unexpected circumstances requiring rescheduling: In the event that circumstances arise where the facilitator is unwell or other emergent circumstances, the training may be postponed to a later date. Michelle White Consulting & Training will either refund your payment or transfer it to a future course. In the event that a cancellation or postponement of the training is required, Michelle White Consulting & Training will give the earliest possible advice to enrolled participants, but will not be liable for refunding travel, accommodation, meal or any other expenses incurred outside of the cost of the training.
